HiND is a Vienna University based research group bringing together scholars of various disciplines with a shared interest in the history of ethnic, linguistic and confessional diversity in Europe. Our objects of study are societies affected by national diversity at the local, regional and national levels, as well as their relations to international and transnational institutions. Such research can be undertaken from a wide range of approaches in political, social, economic, intellectual and cultural history. HiND understands itself as a hub for researchers engaging in historically-informed research of various subjects linked to diversity in the age of nationalism.
